Nanotechnologies: Emergence of a New Industry
On May 24th, 2018 at 14:00, the "ISAE-SUPAERO IEEE Student Branch" association, supported by the ISAE-SUPAERO Foundation, organized its first conference: "Nanotechnologies: Emergence of a New Industry". After having shared a meal between the members of the association and the speakers, the conference was based on three 20-minute talks followed by a question session.
In preamble, the interventions of Alexandre Le Roch and Federico Pace, respectively president and vice-president of the Student Branch, introduced to the public the Student Branch as well as its partners which are the IEEE society to which is attached the association, the ISAE-SUPAERO Foundation for its financial support as well as the ISAE-SUPAERO school for the provision of the auditorium.
First, the intervention of Dr. Fabrizio Messina focused on carbon nanoparticles. The Italian physicist, assistant professor and head of the ultrafast nanoparticle spectroscopy laboratory at the University of Palermo, presented his research on the emissivity of carbon nanoparticles and their numerous applications, particularly in medical imaging.
The conference continued with the presentation of Professor Christophe Laurent, Director of CIRIMAT - Interuniversity Research Center of Materials Engineering Toulouse. Professor Laurent presented the different research topics addressed at CIRIMAT on carbon nanotubes and their interests in the synthesis of new composite materials.
Finally, the doctor and research engineer at Nanolike startup, Dr. Lucas Digianantonio, closed the presentations. Based at IOT Valley in Toulouse, the startup Nanolike was created in 2012. This young company develops connected strain gauges based on gold nanoparticles.
After the presentations ended and the conference closed, the speakers and the 22 participants were invited to a coffee break to discuss more the topics that were discussed.
